Study Jam Student Coordinators play a key leadership role in supporting the success of undergraduate students through peer-led tutoring. Coordinators ensure Study Jam operates smoothly and effectively by overseeing tutor recruitment, managing operations, and communicating with campus partners. Study Jam Tutoring enhances student success and retention by offering free, faculty-recommended, peer-to-peer tutoring in high DFW (drop, fail, withdrawal) and gateway courses. We provide both group and one-to-one sessions that promote collaboration, inclusivity, and academic achievement. By fostering a supportive learning environment and continuously improving through community feedback and data, Study Jam empowers students from all backgrounds to achieve their academic goals and progress toward graduation.

As a Study Jam Student Coordinator, you will actively develop leadership, communication, and professionalism through real-world responsibilities in peer supervision, campus collaboration, and program operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  •  Recruit, interview, hire, and schedule undergraduate and graduate tutors across high-demand subject areas.
  •  Supervise and manage tutoring sessions in real time, ensuring an inclusive, welcoming, and effective learning environment.
  •  Lead the tutor evaluation process, providing constructive feedback and supporting peer development.
  •  Collaborate with faculty and campus departments to maintain subject coverage and program alignment.
  •  Support long-term planning by assisting with data collection and assessment for program improvement.

Communication

  •  Serve as a liaison between Study Jam and academic departments, instructional faculty, and the Office for Student Success.
  •  Communicate clearly with tutors and campus partners, ensuring expectations and updates are consistently conveyed.
  •  Manage the Study Jam Instagram account to promote tutoring sessions, share student success stories, and engage the campus community.
  •  Represent Study Jam in meetings and outreach events with professionalism and enthusiasm.

Professionalism

  •  Track and submit accurate payroll records for tutoring staff on a bi-weekly basis.
  •  Demonstrate reliability and preparedness by attending and managing Study Jam sessions during evening and afternoon hours.
  •  Maintain detailed records of scheduling, attendance, and tutor performance.
  •  Uphold the values of the Office for Student Success by contributing to a culture of accountability, integrity, and student-centered service.

Schedule & Pay

  •  Hours: 10–15 hours per week. Sessions are on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 6:30–9:00 PM and Tuesday and Thursday: 3:00–5:00 PM
  •  Pay Rate: $15/hour
  •  Term: Academic year; begins one week before the semester and only runs when classes are in session.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  Fully admitted UM student with at least one year remaining before graduation.
  •  Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  •  Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with professionalism and initiative.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  •  Experience in tutoring, teaching, or peer leadership roles.
  •  Proficiency with social media tools such as Instagram.
